This morning, I had to put on Feist’s album because I’d forgotten the real words.

TheBoy says lots of awesome things. I don’t know which is my favorite, but these two are up there:

“I did it!”

“Better!” after I kiss whatever he’s hurt.

Telling Stories

So, being a first time mama AND an SLP often means getting ridiculously excited about the little things. Not just first words, first two-word combination, etc… I am talking about little things: first final /s/ (“bus”), first final /f/ (“knife”). And worrying a little bit too much when weirdness happens (he used to say “key” now he says, “deek”).

But tonight was one of the fun ones. He’s been combing two words for a few weeks now. To request (“more beans”), to indicate possession (“Daddy hat”), and even to tell about an earlier event (“Owl. Daddy.” when he saw an owl with TheHusband in the morning). But today, as he and I were in the car, out of the blue, he said, “Daddy. Seesaw. Up, down. Jack. Seesaw.” It was freaking amazing. He and TheHusband went to the park today, and he especially enjoyed the seesaw. TheHusband had told me this in a number of words, but I am in awe that those six words my son said shook me to the core.

This parenting thing is pretty amazing. And SLP-wise, he’s got lots of growing to do in syntax, but pragmatically, the sharing of a personal narrative was pretty damn impressive.
